I'm Daniel

Who I am

A child of the outdoors, musician, writer, and budding cannabinoid & other plant medicine enthusiast. In my career, I am a collaborator to those seeking support in understanding the mental health needs of historically underresearched, underresourced, and marginalized communities (e.g., Black, Brown, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQIA+ folx, immigrants, polyam folx). I am also a Clinical Psychologist licensed in Illinois & Washington, D.C. and possess an E. Passport & Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology via the PSYPACT Commission; this means that I am able to provide telepsychotherapy to folx in PSYPACT participating states across the U.S.

My Approach to Healing: Coaching

I believe we are all oriented to living in alignment, even when our worlds are out of balance. In my practice, coaching & consulting are pathways that pair values realignment with congruent action. I help folx build skills related to conscious & compassionate contemplation, relational nurturance, and self-responsible action; these are essential to developing consistent & committed rituals for individual wellness and, by extension, community, institutional, organizational, & global health. I understand the tension of values-aligned action while living & working in complicated systems and I integrate this into how I establish relationships with clients, how we approach goal setting, and how we reimagine & redefine what resources, healing & transformation can be. My primary purpose is to craft an emotionally intimate & authentic container in which we explore, play & prepare for the life and/or organization that you are designing & building.

My Approach to Healing: Psychotherapy

I speak from lived experience; personally, as a Black/Afro-Trinidadian, Queer, Trans, Immigrant with deep reverence for ancestral, elder & community wisdom, and professionally, as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with academic & clinical training in inpatient care, federally qualified community health, university counseling & private practice. As a psychotherapist, I am curious, culturally integrative & responsive, emotion-focused, insight-oriented and most important, relational. I support clients willing to explore parts of themselves that may trigger tougher emotional responses like shame, those curious about integrating those pieces into an increasingly self-aware, self-compassionate & self-responsible person, and those committed 1) to practicing new & adaptable ways of being in the world and 2) to their mental health goals.  I am empathic yet direct, willing to ask uncomfortable questions, especially if that inner tension leads to meaning making, growth, and demonstrated change. I may not always say things you want to hear but my commitment to reciprocity means centering radical honesty, openness & compassion in our work together. Let us create a practice space for the mutual sharing of conscious & critical feedback, to ensure our work remains beneficial to you & your mental health journey.
