ABOUT DR. DANIEL K. PHILLIP
(HE/THEY)
Founder, Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Being a psychologist with visible (+ invisible) marginalized identities has provided me with personal + professional opportunities that connect me authentically + intimately with clients. It is why my approach to healing emphasizes the sharing of thoughts + emotions and significance of establishing + maintaining healthy relationships with oneself and others. From a practice standpoint, my theoretical approach incorporates cognitive behavioral, emotion-focused, insight-oriented and anti-oppressive approaches. When I am not working, I am either getting through a difficult stage in a video game or diving into documentaries.

ABOUT
DAVIREE VELÁZQUEZ PHILLIP
(SHE, HER)
Lead Consultant:
Higher Education + Organizational Change
As a student with marginalized identities, I recall wishing that those who were making decisions about my undergraduate career were better equipped to serve students like me. Throughout my work in higher education and organizational change management, I have learned that most practitioners have good intentions but lack the knowledge + resources to effect change. My greatest strengths are my ability to facilitate dialogue and conflict resolution, provide workshops on systemic issues while centering communities at the margins, and support organizations through strategic inclusion. As I go about working for societal change, I take time to nourish myself by gardening, reading and spending time with community.
Educational Background:
DePaul University (BA - Psychology)
Loyola University Chicago (MEd - Higher Education Administration)

THINGS TO KNOW - THERAPY
I THINK I'M READY TO TALK TO SOMEONE. WHERE SHOULD I START?
You could reach out to us via our contact form. Feel free to share as many details as you wish about how we can support you.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I SUBMIT THE FORM?
Once you complete the contact form, you will receive a phone call from me (Dr. Daniel K. Phillip) requesting additional information. You will be asked for your insurance information to verify coverage of services, reason for seeking care, and your availability to meet. During this conversation, you will learn about my therapy approach and we will discuss whether or not we think working together will be a good fit. After this conversation, we agree to a date and time that is mutually convenient to meet.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE FOR THERAPY SERVICES?
We accept all BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois (BCBSIL) PPO plans, Lyra, Northwestern University Student Health Insurance Plan (NU-SHIP) and UnitedHealthCare (UHC). For all other plans, we are considered out of network. However, please get in touch if you have questions about services but do not have any of the aforementioned plans. For clients wanting to utilize their out of network benefits, I will provide you with invoices that you could submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Here are some questions you should ask your insurance provider:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
Is there pre-authorization required? If so, what information do I need for this? Is there a specific form that needs to be completed?
What amount will I be reimbursed for the following services with a licensed clinical psychologist?
CPT Code 90791 (initial assessment)
CPT Code 90837 (individual psychotherapy)
CPT Code 90847 (couple or family session)
Is there a deductible I need to meet each year before I can begin receiving reimbursement for sessions?
Is there a session limit per year?
Do I have to pay a coinsurance amount?
Do I have Telehealth benefits?
I'VE NEVER DONE THERAPY BEFORE; WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
In the first two meetings, we will ask questions about who you are, your life experiences, and your reasons for seeking care. We will ask you questions about how you have been feeling (e.g., have you had difficulty with sleep lately? Do you feel like you're missing connections with others?) and at the end of this process, we co-create a treatment plan, which is a way of holding each other accountable while working together. It is really important that during those first two sessions, you also ask us questions because you are making sense of who we are and determining if we are a good match. Some folks have asked questions about our identities or about what it is like being a therapist.
After those first sessions, we continue meeting to gain insight into your experiences and to determine how to make changes based on your personal circumstances. Remember, this is a space where you will be seen, held + valued so no topic is off the table.
DO YOU OFFER ONLINE THERAPY?
Yes we do! However, even if it may be more convenient, there are some clients who will not be appropriate for teletherapy services. Be sure to ask any questions you may have about this service during our telephone consultation.
THINGS TO KNOW - CONSULTATION
WHAT KIND OF INDIVIDUALS + GROUPS DO YOU WORK WITH?
Everyone. Our experiences range from one-on-one work to groups of 300+ and have included associations, hospitals, mental health practices, non-profit organizations, student-led organizations + universities.
HOW DO I KNOW IF TOGETHER + THROUGH IS RIGHT FOR MY GROUP?
Once you complete the contact form, you will receive a phone call from Dr. Daniel K. Phillip or Daviree Velázquez Phillip requesting additional information such as training needs, timeline for proposed project, and number of training attendees. During this call, we also share our training philosophy, discuss a date and time that is mutually convenient to further map out the consultation project (if needed), and assess our working relationship. We are able to host this meeting in-person or via Zoom.
WHAT FRAMEWORKS INFORM YOUR TRAINING + CONSULTING WORK?
Given our professional and lived experiences, our approach is multilayered but primarily informed by anti-oppression, decolonialism, intersectionality, and trauma-informed perspectives + practices.
DO I GET TO WORK WITH BOTH DAVIREE + DANIEL?
Yes! We do training and consulting together. However, based on your needs, it may be best to work with just one of us.
HOW DO I CONTINUE WORKING WITH TOGETHER + THROUGH?
After our trainings, we offer a free + optional 30-minute check in to all of our clients. In that conversation, we can discuss follow-up or additional sessions to address ongoing needs.
